The fixed-term Digital Asset Manager will develop operations related to managing the museum’s digital media, including ingestion workflows, organizing, storing, and making digital assets and associated metadata accessible. The Digital Asset Manager is a grant-funded role with a fixed-term of three years, and will be a key part of the implementation of the museum’s new data asset management system (DAMS), Media Studio, and its integration with the other digital collections systems across the institution, including TMS, ArchiveSpace, and Preservica. Working closely with the Associate Director of Collections Information, the Collections Database Administrator, and the Rights Manager, this position will help facilitate and guide the launch of the DAMS to staff, which is scheduled for spring 2025.

This position has a fixed-term length of 3 years, February 2025 - February 2028.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Apply current best practices to managing the governance, maintenance, and accessibility of stewarding digital assets.
  2. Working with relevant teams across the institution, develop metadata schema in support of the discoverability and accessibility of the full portfolio of digital assets that are produced or stewarded by the museums, such as time-based media, x-ray files, design files, and other assets resulting from new technology.
  3. Create a long-term plan for the storage, organization, and preservation of assets.
  4. Oversee the ongoing, day-to-day management of the DAMS; Perform, maintain, assess, and adjust standards and protocols as necessary for asset ingest, rights management, and metadata entry.
  5. Working with the Collections Database Administrator, configure and customize the DAMS and its permissions to meet institutional and stakeholder needs.
  6. Contribute to and lead projects in support of systems development, such as metadata cleanup, duplicate asset remediation, and integrations with other FAMSF systems.
  7. Provide ad hoc support, including general use questions, troubleshooting, and running both group and individual training sessions.
  8. Draft and maintain user documentation, and train and onboard new account holders.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in library science, digital preservation, or related discipline with a related degree or coursework in archival studies or art history.

Work Experience:

At least three years of experience administering, managing, or working as a superuser within a DAMS.

Substitution:

Master’s degree in library science, digital preservation, or related discipline with a related degree or a closely related field relevant to the job may substitute for one year of experience.

Skills and Abilities:

Required:

  • Knowledge of current best practices in digital collections and archival management, including methodologies, processes, and standards.
  • Understanding of schemas such as IPTC, VRACore, PBCore, and Dublin Core.
  • Knowledge of current best practices with digital preservation and digitization.
  • Familiarity with copyright, donor restrictions, and permissions issues related to accessing library, archival, and museum collections.
  • Expertise managing media files, including raw files and derivatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, manage projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive in a team-based environment and build collaborative and mutually beneficial working relationships with people of varying backgrounds.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and responsive to an evolving work environment.
  • Ability to work for long periods of time at a computer.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with Media Studio, TMS, or TMS Collections.
  • Experience working in a museum setting.
  • Familiarity with Open Access and the integration of assets onto public-facing web platforms.
  • Familiarity with cultural heritage ontologies such as the Getty vocabularies (AAT).
  • Willingness to acquire and use new computing skills, such as learning new software applications and exploring innovative tools and services.
  • Comfort with project management and work tools, such as Asana and Google Workspace.

Additional:

Schedule: This 3 year, fixed-term Union position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. Hybrid schedules typically include at least 3 days a week onsite and up to two days per week working remotely. The workweek is Monday - Friday, 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week.

The benefits package includes medical, dental, vision and 401(k), and paid time off.

Step 1 on the union wage scale for this role is $37.0194.
