Job Summary: The Motorsports Technician is responsible for managing the technical operations and maintenance of all FPRS Motorsports vehicles. This role focuses on vehicle preparation, performance, and ensuring that all technical tasks are completed efficiently. The Lead Technician reports directly to the Motorsport Program Manager and oversees the Junior Technicians/contract mechanics, ensuring a structured and clear flow of responsibilities. This hierarchical setup enhances communication, accountability, and team efficiency. A minimum of 2 years of professional road race experience is required.
Specific Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
· Primary Technical Oversight
o Lead the preparation, maintenance, and repair of FPRS Motorsports vehicles, ensuring that all systems meet performance and safety standards.
· Supervision of Junior Technicians
o Directly manage Junior Technicians/contract labor, delegating tasks, monitoring progress, and ensuring that they operate independently within their roles. Provide mentorship to develop their skills.
· Reporting to Team Manager
o Act as the key technical liaison for the Team Manager, providing regular updates on vehicle readiness, team progress, and technical challenges. Handle day-to-day technical decisions autonomously while keeping the Team Manager informed of critical issues.
· On-Track Support
o Lead all technical operations during race weekends, overseeing pit stops, in-race repairs, and performance adjustments. Serve as the primary problem-solver for mechanical issues during events.
· Inventory and Parts Management
o Track all parts, tools, and equipment required for vehicle maintenance. Ensure that parts are available when needed. Motorsport inventory is accurately managed and fully reconciled working with FPRS accounting team members.
· Collaboration with Engineers and Drivers
o Work closely with engineers/ team manager and drivers to gather performance feedback and make necessary adjustments to improve vehicle performance.
· Training and Development
o Provide guidance and training to Junior Technicians/ contract mechanics, helping them develop technical skills and understanding of FPRS Motorsports’ standards.
· Protect the moral, legal, and financial well-being of FPRS Motorsports
· Continually work with other team members new and better ways of doing business with an emphasis on safety, accountability, leadership, and service
· Perform any other job duties as assigned by management.
Requirements:Knowledge and Skills
· Experience
o Minimum 2 years of professional experience in a motorsport’s environment as a lead technician or mechanic.
o Experience managing a technical team within a structured management hierarchy.
· Technical Expertise
o Proficiency with motorsports technologies such as MoTeC and AIM systems.
o Strong mechanical knowledge of race vehicles, including engines, suspensions, and drivetrains.
o Practical knowledge and implementation of industry best practices
· Leadership and Team Management
o Proven ability to manage and mentor Junior Technicians, ensuring autonomy while maintaining accountability.
o Excellent communication skills for working with both technical teams and management.
· Education
o High school diploma or equivalent required; advanced technical training preferred.
Other Requirements
· Must possess a valid driver’s license; Valid CDL preferred.
· 2 – 5 years’ experience in professional racing series as a lead mechanic
· Excellent organization and coordination of team members skills
· Fabrication skills with various materials
· Ability to work with suppliers and vendors
· Working knowledge of MoTeC and AIM systems
· Experience of working in a race shop, interacting with sanctioning bodies and all members of a professional race team, e.g., technicians, engineers, DAG’s drivers, etc…
· High School Graduate
· Ability to interact well with customers and fellow employees.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to prioritize tasks in the most productive and/or appropriate manner.
· Must be able to make quick, sound decisions based on facts.
· Demonstrate outstanding customer service and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to utilize creative thinking in all situations.
· Must be able to drive a manual transmission.
Supervision Received and Exercised
· Reports to Team Manager
o The Lead Technician reports directly to the Team Manager, ensuring streamlined communication and clear task delegation. This structure reduces confusion and allows for efficient management of the technical team.
· Supervisory Role :
o Directly manages Junior Technicians, providing them with autonomy to complete tasks while holding them accountable for quality and performance. This structure ensures a balanced workload and fosters professional growth.
Expectations:
· Adhere to an event-driven work schedule - with many evenings, and holidays required.
· Extensive travel (20 events per year minimum) with ability to travel internationally.
· Must provide personal tools; FPRS Motorsports will supply specialized equipment
· Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
· Professionally represent the company in the community, industry organizations, and during events
· Use proper and professional language in the workplace, when interfacing with guests or potential clients and when representing the company in an official capacity
· Be efficient with time and demonstrate time management skills allowing work to get done in a timely manner.
· Demonstrate an ability to perform world class quality work with no errors in a timely manner.
· Show respect for others and maintain a positive attitude.
· Maintain current valid driver’s license, clean driving record, pass background and drug screening.
· Uphold FPRS Motorsports’ standards of professionalism, safety, and teamwork in all tasks.

· Support continuous improvement by implementing new techniques and maintaining open communication between team members and management.
Physical Demands:
· Often required to work long hours and be available when needed or as business requires.
· Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds unassisted.
· Moderate to high levels of stress may be associated with this position.
Language Skills:
· Must be able to communicate in English.
