SAMPLE PREPARATION TECHNICIAN provides a broad range of testing and analytical services to the mining and metal processing industries around the globe.

Responsibilities

• Sieving, crushing, splitting;
• Coning and quartering samples with shovel;
• Loading and unloading drying ovens under supervision;
• Maintain own production logs (utilize a time book to account for time spent on varying projects);
• General cleaning duties for basic lab cleanliness;
• May assist with line out and layout duties;
• Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring metallurgical and analytical quality;
• Preparing and weighing samples;
• Record and report weights accurately;
• Sample management;
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor;

Physical Demands

• Must be able to work various shifts, including weekends and willing to work holidays
• Must be able to lift/handle up to 50 lbs
• Must stand, walk and bend for 6-8 hours per day
• Must be able to pass respirator fit test and wear a respirator for 6-8 hours per day
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening
• Must work with health and safety in mind

Qualifications

• Ability to work efficiently, independently
• Excellent work ethic
• Good follow up skills
• Basic alpha/numeric comprehension; basic math skills
• Good hand-eye coordination
• Ability to work within a hot and dusty environment
• Reliable transportation to and from work
• General chemistry knowledge helpful
• Flexible work schedule
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Experience with a laboratory setting would be considered an asset
• Good people skills along with the ability to exercise diplomacy and tact
